Year 1 - Pembroke (Mrs Dorey and Mrs Breakspear)

laughDdosbarth Pembrokelaugh

April - May 2021

This term we have been exploring how we grow.

These are our first thoughts.

We looked at different animals, explored the names of their babies and matched them to their parents.

We sorted animals by their similarities and differences.

We made cave paintings of our animals.  We used chalk on stones outside.

We created watercolour backgrounds and used charcoal to draw our cave painting animals.

We explored the lifecycle of caterpillar.  We bought some caterpillars and watched them change as they grew. The caterpillars made a chrysalis around themselves.  When they hatched out of the chrysalis they had become butterflies! We released them in the playground so that they could find a new home.

We went out to the Forest School area and collected lots of different natural materials.  We used these to make symmetrical butterfly collages.

Our butterfly collages

We grew sunflower seeds.  Once they started to grow we planted them in our class garden.  Unfortunately a bad hailstorm killed them all.

World Book Day

We dressed up as our favourite book characters today and enjoyed the 'Masked Reader' challenge (we couldn't work them all out though!).

We all have the right to be happy, healthy and safe.

This is Sally Holland, The Children's Commissioner for Wales.  Her job is to make sure that all children in Wales are able to be happy, healthy and safe.

We found out about all the things that we need to be happy, healthy and safe. We also learnt that there is a difference between wanting something and needing it!
We have learnt a song about our rights.  It is called, 'We Stand Together'.

We found out all about life in china and how Chinese people prepare and celebrate!

We learned greetings in Mandarin, how to preform a lion dance and how to make yummy noodles and Chinese rice to eat with chopsticks.

We loved to use brushes and ink to write our names in Chinese symbols and we even taught our mums and dads.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came fo out afternoon of chinese celebrations, we were super impressed when you rid all the activities with us.

We have a new pizza shop in the classroom and we will be sharing the pizzas into halves and quarters.

We will also be learning to tell the time on an analogue and a digital clock. help us at home by getting us to recognise O'clock and half past times.
