Bluebirds from Home Festival resources

Welcome to Cardiff City FC Foundation’s #BluebirdsFromHome Schools Festival.
Cardiff City FC Foundation is the official charity of Cardiff City FC and our goal is to support children, young people and families achieve their full potential.
This pack has been designed for your child to experience fun engaging educational lessons across three curriculum areas including having an opportunity to compete against Cardiff City First team and Cardiff City FC Women’s team players in physical activity challenges.
Monday through to Thursday have been broken down into three parts, one well-being lesson, one either in literacy or numeracy lesson and a physical activity challenge. These lessons and activities have been created to help support your child to be active and boost their development and learning.
Friday has been reserved for a fun filled day of physical activities as a lot of children will be missing out on taking part in Sports Day. There are six rounds of activities with an option of two activities per round. These activities have been designed to require little of no equipment, but any equipment required should be items you can find around the house.
A breakdown of the week can be found at the bottom of the page. We’d love to see your child and family taking part so please share your experiences throughout the week by posting your child’s progress on social media tagging @CCFC_Foundation using the hashtag #BluebirdsFromHome.
Please find an introduction from Cardiff City FC First team Captain Sean Morrison on the link below, good luck and have fun!!

In Literacy, we will be learning to retell the story of the BFG, write invitations and create tickets for the parents so that they can come and enjoy our cinema experience on the 10th of January. All parents are welcome to this event.

In Numeracy, we will be looking at multiplication and division. We will be learning to independently solve one and two-step problems so that we can be prepared the tests in May. We will also be looking at a variety of ways that we can measure certain objects in a real-life context.

We want to ask all parents to join us in our weekly Friday morning reading sessions. This will start from Friday the 17th of January 2019. If you would like to join us please come and speak to any of the teachers in class.

Project Two - Chinese New Year

Our second Project for Learning in the Spring Term is Chinese New Year, where we will be looking at all the things linked to the Chinese New Year. We will be looking at the story of the Chinese New Year. We will also be creating our own artwork linked to the artist Katsushika Hokusai and making a traditional Chinese dish with noodles. The children will also get the opportunity to create their own interpretation of the Chinese New Year 'Lion Dance' and they will create their own masks for the performance.

In Literacy, we will be retelling the famous Chinese New Year story and the children will present what they have learnt to both the parents and other peers within the school. The children will also get the chance to research a famous landmark or great wonder of the world and write their own information text linked to their findings. We will also publish this using our Hwb accounts and show parents at the show and tell afternoon on the 5th of February.

In Numeracy, we will be continuing to develop our skills linked to different measurements by completing one and two-step problems. The children will also get the opportunity to use their estimating and checking strategies within a real-life context. They will then progress onto working with money and paying for items using different combinations. Once achieved the children will then move onto working out the change from items bought. To ensure the children receive a real-life context within this project we will be visiting a local shop to buy items.

Project Three - National Story Telling

In our third Project of Spring Term we will be looking at a variety of different stories and the authors that have written them. All children will be given the opportunity to bring in their own favourite book and write a book review on it. They will also have a visit from a famous author and parents will be welcomed to come and meet the author and discuss the children's favourite books.

This is going to be a very exciting Spring Term and I look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at all the events being held this term :) If you have any questions please do come and see Miss Turner.

Pupil of the week

Attendance

This is a very important year for your children. Learning takes place every day and the pupils and teachers work extremely hard. Missing just one day of school can lead to gaps in learning that can have a detrimental effect on a pupil’s achievement. Coming to school every day and on time will be rewarded through praise, rewards, and trips given throughout the year.

Welcome back! Happy New Year and I hope you had a lovely Christmas!
