Beth ydym ni'n dysgu? What are we learning about?

Summer B

Humanities

This term our project is 'Rainforests'. We will be looking at famous rainforests from around the world and locating them on a world map. We will then be moving onto the significance of the different 'Layers of the Rainforest' and then creating a SWAY PowerPoint to present our findings. The children have also chosen to look in more detail at the variety of animals that live in the rainforest. This was chosen during our 'Pupil Voice' session, following on from our hook lesson where 'Into the Wild' came in to deliver a workshop. They are going to plan how they present their research during the term and then share this with the rest of the class.

Languages, Literacy, and Communication

During literacy, we will continue to read the text 'Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.' We will progress with our writing by comparing the main characters in the story.  We will also carry out some roleplay based around Kensuke’s Kingdom. First, the children will be shown an example playscript of Jack and Jill. The children will have to work with a partner to discuss the purpose of a playscript and the features. Some children will be given different roles from the playscript and act it out. Using this to help them, the children will go into groups of four to plan out their own play script for their roleplay. The children will decide who will be doing each part: Michael, mum, dad, and the narrator. Once they have written out their plan, the children will be given time to practice their roleplay. At the end, they will show their roleplays to the rest of the class. This will help the children in the next lesson when they write up their play scripts into their books.

The children will also continue to read a chapter and discuss the key events and key themes throughout the book.

In Welsh, we will continue to learn how to pronounce school subjects in Welsh and use sentence patterns to describe how we feel about these subjects. We will also look at different sports and play a variety of games to ensure that we consolidate the vocabulary whilst being able to use it in extended sentences.

Mathematics and Numeracy

During numeracy, we are going to be looking at time, measurements, and data. These concepts will be covered until the end of the term. We are also going to be looking for opportunities to use these skills through real-life problems. This term, we will also be looking at how we can use these transferable skills during our project sessions.

Health and Wellbeing

This term, we will be taking part in Sports Day on Friday 26th June. This will be completed in our bubbles and the children will compete against one another. We will also be running a 'Sports Week' on the week commencing 12th July, this will include a variety of workshops and activities linked to the AoLE for the whole school to complete. Every class will be asked to take pictures of their work and place them onto their class pages, so please keep an eye on your child's class page to see what they have been up to.

We have a very exciting term ahead! I cannot believe how fast the year has gone!

Thank you for your continued support and help!

Summer A

Humanities

This term our topic is called 'How did people survive during WW2?'. We will be looking at famous and influential people and their impact on the world. We will be looking further into Hitler's reign of power across the world. We will also be looking at what caused WW2 and how people survived throughout this significant event.

Languages, Literacy, and Communication

During literacy, we will continue to read the text 'Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.' We will progress with our writing by retelling a chapter in our own words using Talk4Writing as well as creating a character description linked to one of the main characters Kensuke. Each day, we will read a chapter and discuss the key events and key themes throughout the book. This will allow us to continuously act out specific roles and allow us to have in-depth discussions into what might happen next. We will also be using the text to create our own dictionaries with definitions for the words that we do not understand.

In Welsh, we will be learning how to pronounce school subjects in Welsh and use sentence patterns to describe how we feel about these subjects. We will also look at different sports and play a variety of games to ensure that we consolidate the vocabulary whilst being able to use it in extended sentences.

Mathematics and Numeracy

During numeracy, we are going to be looking at fractions of both shape and number. We are also going to be looking for opportunities to use these skills through real-life problems. This term we will also be looking at decimal numbers and time, and applying them both throughout our project.

Through our projects, we will be developing these skills in fun and creative ways, while also looking at the areas of learning.

Expressive Arts

This term, we will be having Upbeat with us to help us create and perform a 'Samba' piece. This will be developed over a 6 week period and once the children have mastered this we will invite parents to watch their performance via either 'Teams or Google Meets.'

We have a very exciting term ahead of us and I look forward to seeing you all!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break!

This next project that we will be completing is - 'A Christmas Project'. The pupils will be focusing on becoming enterprising and creative contributors. They will need to be ethically informed, as well as being ambitious. The children will be finding out the skills to connect and apply their knowledge and skills to create ideas and products. They will also develop their ability to express their ideas in a co-operative manner. Through a variety of lessons, working on a number of objectives, they will then use their skills to create their own Christmas Performance based on a German Christmas.

We will be recording our Christmas performance on the 9th December so don't forget to wear your Christmas jumpers or traditional German inspired clothes, if you have any at home!
