Year 5 - Harlech (Mrs Rees)

Croeso i Ddosbarth Harlech!

Welcome to Class Harlach!

Have a look at our fantastic Eid learning!

Beth ydym ni’n dysgu? What are we learning about?

Summer 1:

This half term we have been asking the question ‘How did life change for people in the 1940s’. We have been exploring the causes of WW2 as well as the significant impact war had on the lives of people in Wales and across the world.

Languages, literacy and communication:

This half term we have been reading ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo and exploring the adventure Michael goes on as he travels around the world. As we read each chapter we have reflected on the themes and ideas explored to help us predict what might happen next and produce our own creative writing. We have also worked hard to develop our vocabulary and explore the meaning of new words by creating our own dictionary of words and their meaning which we can use to up-level and develop our own writing.

In Welsh we have been learning how to pronounce school subjects in Welsh and use sentence patterns to describe how we feel about these subjects. We have also been looking at different sports and using a variety of games to consolidate and extend speaking, listening and writing skills.

Mathematics and Numeracy:

This half term we have been finding fractions and decimals of amounts and objects as well as comparing decimal, fraction and percentage equivalents. Pupils have also been working hard to develop their mental maths skills using 'magic 10' to help them accurately and quickly sport patterns in numbers and solve problems. We continue to use a range of games and resources to re-call our times tables and have focucussed on the 3, 6 and 9 times tables as well as the 4 and 8 times tables.

If you have any questions or would like further information please don't hesitate to get in touch!
